New Tattoo & getting back to drawing

I had a random thought today while walking…
It was quite rainy today. I looked at the ground and notice the puddles of water that were reflecting the endless sky. We usually associate looking downwards as something negative (or an end)… but if you can find a reflection, you can see through it endlessly as though you were looking upwards at the sky. Interestingly enough, these reflections only appear during rainy days..
An analogy for something later.
I have this strange interest of exploring the sense of home in art. I want to go back to great Canadian artists (such as the Group of Seven) but bring something innovative to the table, like the Bauhaus movement.
Style: Fusing fine art with graphic design principles
Content: exploring Canadian identity and the sense of home
I’m starting to work on a couple of canvases this winter (large scale). I started one last night after coming back from the artshow (By The Pound) @ Sleeping Giant.
It’s currently a 2 x 3 feet collage. I’m going to keep adding on more layers to build up the piece.
Ah, and of course, practicing black and white portraiture paintings…

I’m also working on a series of collage/observational sketches around Toronto! And the usual almost-daily sketchbook entries

I found myself back in New York again.
It was a pretty interesting trip. I walked around familiar streets with my roomie, checked out my first Broadway show (Billy Elliot), had my first martini there.. and did a lot of shopping. We didn’t get a chance to drown ourselves in art though.. which was a shame but there’s always next time!

I started collaging, painting and drawing while standing in the streets. It’s quite challenging jumbling all of these materials.
I’m going to start doing a couple of more observational sketches around Toronto using mix media (paint, collage and ink).
