Sketchblog Post #1: Art is Pretty & Meaningful

Posted by: Myra  /  Category: Art, Pieces & Sketches

Art is pretty and meaningful (an analogy to life). There are people who think that some art pieces are really ugly (aesthetically). However, looking at the same “ugly” piece, there are those who think that it’s beautiful. Why do they think this “ugly” piece is beautiful? It is because they can relate to it or it has some sort of deeper meaning to the person which allows them to see it’s beauty. This is similar to humans and relationships in a way. As an example (that is to the extreme of course), there is a beautiful male that is dating an “ugly” female or male . Why would this beautiful male be attracted to the “ugly” female or male? It is obviously not for their physical appearance… The reason why the beautiful male is attracted to the other person is most likely because he can see the inner beauty of him or her (looking pass his or her physical appearances), loving and accepting the person as they are (such as a great personality for example).

You can take a look at some beautiful people. If there is an amazingly looking beautiful person, are they really beautiful and how meaningful are they if they have an ugly personality and treat people badly? It’s just like art & design: if there is a painting of a bowl of fruits that was painted so perfectly with the right colors and shading but the subject itself is bland and meaningless, how beautiful is that?

The bowl of fruits would look tasty.

Depends on how much you correlate beauty and meaning in art together I suppose. No matter how meaningful the piece of art or the artist or even the artist’s motivation/inspiration to create their piece of work, if it can’t connect to the audience it won’t really matter.

Just as I can’t see any merits of cubism or abstract expressionism. Someone, somewhere has to find that weird stuff beautiful. How anyone relates deeply to 3 painted lines or geometric shapes in a chaotic order is beyond me.

    But those are extremes.
Art means and is as appealing to the viewer exactly as much as they value it.

and I wish I had a bowl of fruit to eat…
